Suicide Attempt Rates During COVID-19 in the US

Introduction

My topic is about the increase in suicide rates in teens post-COVID in the US. This covers 2019 suicide attempt rates to the current rates in 2021. Learning about historical events lets us learn from past mistakes and lets us better understand what to do in the future. For example, at the beginning of COVID, we didn’t have much insight on what to do to help the issue, so we ignored it until there wasn’t much left to do. As a result, we had a complete lockdown across the country to help stop the spread of COVID. During the lockdown, due to the isolation and inattentiveness towards teens, there was a 50% increase in suicide attempt rates in girls from the ages of 12-17. Learning from these mistakes, hopefully, the next time this happens we will have a better grasp on how to approach the situation. One of the major historical themes that are presented with my topic is cultural interaction since many things had to be changed, and socialization and interaction situations were significantly limited. My purpose for researching this topic was to inform that quarantine wasn’t as easy to handle as some made it out to be for others. The isolation and fear of some of the factors COVID presented had a very stressful effect on some people.
