Food Waste is Not Waste

Food waste is an ongoing plague. It causes an excess of harmful greenhouse gases to enter the atmosphere. Not only that, despite the vast amounts of food wasted per year in the United States, many people still do not have enough for themselves. This literature review outlines the various ways food waste can be reduced and repurposed to solve these problems as well as highlights the other benefits of recycling food waste.

One of the key steps to minimizing food waste is awareness of the amount of food we waste. This infogrpahic presents data collected from an "ort report" (the weight of food wasted was collected over several days) and suggests several ways the food waste can be used instead of sending it to a landfill.
