You can use the vocabulary site linked below to look at definitions, synonyms, antonyms, and more for each word.
Unit 1:Â
blunder, cancel, continuous, distribute, document, fragile, myth, reject, scuffle, solitary, temporary, veteran
Mentor Sentence: Every week, we study one sentence out of a picture book. We will examine the sentence through a different lens each day, making observations, defining parts of speech, improving the sentence, and even rewriting it. On Fridays we will take an assessment on the sentence. This week's sentence comes from Fireboat:
The George Washington Bridge was suspended elegantly across the Hudson River.
Grammar: We are in unit 1 of the Grammar book. This unit focuses on sentences. We are currently studying the four kinds of sentences (declarative, interrogative, imperative, exclamatory). There will be a quiz on lesson 2 on Thursday, September 11.
Welcome to 5th grade ELA!
ELA is all about reading, speaking, writing, and understanding the English language. We will study grammar and vocabulary using the Grammar and Vocabulary Workshop series. We will also complete daily warm-ups and activities with our weekly mentor sentence. We will read novels together this year and reflect on them in class discussion and in writing. We will begin reading our first novel during the second week of school. Sometimes we will also read nonfiction articles together. It is going to be a great year!
You can always find the words on our Vocabulary Workshop site.
