3A and 3B Families,

Please read below to find important curriculum updates for any of the subjects listed as well as important dates of assessments! This is a great snapshot of what is happening in the classroom both for our in-person and virtual students. Remember, we utilize Google Classroom for assigned work and assessments, so this website is a snapshot of what students are working on!

Language Arts (Ms. DeMelim and Mrs. Trimble)

Reading

  • Novel Study

    • Skills: Making Inferences, text evidence

    • Text: The Year of Miss Agnes by Kirkpatrick Hill

    • We're spending the month of May focused on our novel study! We'll read in a variety of ways: independently, chorally, and in partners. After each chapter we will respond to questions that help us develop our critical thinking skills and refer back to the text for support. It is a fun fiction story, with some historical background!


Spelling

  • Unit 16: The Schwa Sound

    • Homework Choice Board and Vocab A-Z site are loaded in Google Classroom!

Handwriting

    • It's important to note that there are no assessments for handwriting, it is not a graded standard. We still value the practice of strengthening our cursive handwriting! We are working hard to review and practice individual letters and joining letters.

Writing

  • We're so proud of our students for completing their 3 paragraph research reports! We worked through the entire research process, and produced a final copy. We can't wait to print them and share them with you all at home.

*We've moved right into fractions! We are ready to spend time this spring deepening our understanding of parts and wholes. We will look at equal vs unequal parts, shaded regions, partitioning (cutting) shapes into fractions, fractions on the number line, and line plot graphs. We will be busy! Please note we will be completing almost every lesson in Topic 12, so there will be both a quiz and test.

*It is still valuable to spend time practicing multiplication and division facts at home!

*We're exploring family, self, life, love and community during our Family Life unit in 3rd grade! We use a separate text for this unit and students will complete some classwork activities, there will be no test. This is our time to talk about the people who keep us safe and how to live out our call to be God's children.
