This ensemble is made up of first-time musicians in 5th Grade. This means that these students have not played a band instrument before. They spend the first couple weeks of beginning band learning the fundamentals of music (reading notes, counting, and vocabulary) and basics of playing their instruments. These musicians will perform in three concerts this year - the First Performance Demonstration Concert, the Winter Concert, and the Spring Concert. 

This ensemble is made up of mostly second-year musicians and rehearses on B Days. These musicians continue building on what they learned in 5th Grade Band and prepare music for concert performances, such as the Winter Concert and the Spring Concert. 

This ensemble is made up of mostly third-year musicians and meets on B Days. This ensemble will combine for concert performances, such as the Winter Concert, Music Exchange Concert, and Spring Concert. Musicians in this group will also have the opportunity to perform for Solo & Ensemble, and can submit an audition for ILMEA District Band.

This 8th Grade ensemble is made up of mostly fourth-year musicians and meets on B Days. This group combines with 7th Grade for concert performances, such as the Winter Concert, Music Exchange Concert, and Spring Concert. Musicians in this group will also have the opportunity to perform for Solo & Ensemble, and can submit an audition for ILMEA District Band. To get a glimpse of High School Band, this ensemble also gets the opportunity to participate in Future Marching Spartans Night with the SJO High School Marching Band.
