Seeking individual interested in working a couple hours a week in our aftercare. Hours would be Wed. and Thurs. 3-4:30pm.
We have availability for a couple spaces in Morning Care and drop in care requests are being accepted.
Welcome to the SJA Extended Care Program!
We are looking forward to an exciting and enjoyable year in our program. Please read the information below carefully, as there are some changes from years past. We follow MSDE Office of Child Care regulations and AOB guidelines. All students must be registered each year and have an updated emergency form on file BEFORE they can attend either before or after care.

Please call 410-272-1387 extension 145. If no one answers, please leave a voicemail message. Also, email extendedcare@stjoanarc.org. Staff will be alerted that there ia a voicemail and will check email as frequently as possible.
Before Care: Hours: 7:00 am - 8:00 am We have limited availability in before care as of Feb. 14th.
Before Care will be in the our SCHOOL LIBRARY. All should enter through our LAW STREET doors. Due to the current construction, Before Care students should enter through the Law Street doors. When dropping off your student in the morning, please press the button to be buzzed in. Students will then enter the building and proceed up the steps inside and enter the library space.
Students may bring breakfast and/or morning snacks. Personal electronics, as well as other quiet time activities, are permitted during this time as well. Please make sure your students understand that games, activities and content through personal electronic devices must be school appropriate and permission to use will be subject to staff discretion.
Aftercare: Hours: 3:10 pm - 6:00pm FULL! We are not accepting any more registrations (Sept. 8, 2023) Please email extendedcare@stjoanarc.org to be placed on a waiting list as we work to increase our ability to accept more registrations. Thank you!
Aftercare students are dismissed to Aftercare when the school day is over. Weather permitting, we usually have play/free time outside. We will head over to the Church Hall after our free time, have snack time and then homework time. During homework time, students who do not have homework to do will have some quiet activity time. We do our best to keep the environment distraction free for those working on their school work.
Electronics policy: Students are permitted to use electronic devices for homework, if necessary. All other non-school work related use of any electronic device (cell phones, tablets, iPods, iPads, etc.) will be permitted at the discretion of the Aftercare staff. We typically DO NOT allow electronics prior to 5:30 pm. Sharing of electronic devices is strictly prohibited. Extended Care staff reserves the right to confiscate electronic devices when students are using them during unauthorized time and/or if students are not using them appropriately.
Snack: Snack will be provided to all Aftercare students. Students will be provided with 1 pre-packaged snack per day. All are still welcome to bring their own snack in addition to the Aftercare provided snack.
AFTERCARE PICK-UP PROCEDURES: Once a student is picked up from aftercare, they may not return back to aftercare.
*** Pick up is in the Church Hall. Please park behind the Church (Plater Street and the alley).
*** Please come down the steps and ring the buzzer.
If you are registered for Drop-In Care: You must use the drop in care link at the top of this page.
Sign up 48 hours prior to needing care is required for drop-in students, as our spots are limited, especially in Before Care. Please use the tab at the top of this page to request extended care if you are registered as a drop in student. You will receive an email to confirm. If you need care the same day you are requesting, please email extendedcare@stjoanarc.org and/or call the main office. You will also receive an email confirming there is a space for your child/children. Do not send your child to extended care (either before or after) if you have not received an email confirmation. I will email either way so please watch for an email from extendedcare@stjoanarc.org.
Half Days: Hours: 12:05 pm - 4:00 pm
Students are checked into Aftercare at dismissal. After all are checked in, we typically have lunch time in the church hall. We often order lunch on our half days. An email will go out no later than 1 week prior to Half Days with a google forms link. If your student is registered in monthly aftercare, they are guaranteed a spot for half day extended care and there is no extra fee. We often order lunch on half days at an extra cost. This year, all lunch orders will be billed through FACTS as an incidental charge. Sign up for lunch orders will still be done through a google form which can be found by clicking the Home tab at the top of this page. Late fees will begin accruing at 4:05pm.
Late Pick Up: Our Aftercare program ends promptly at 6:00 pm. This means that all Aftercare students, parents and staff should be out of the building by 6:00 pm. We have had issues with compliance of the 6:00 pm pick up time in the past, some rather extreme. While we understand that things occasionally happen (emergencies, unusual traffic, etc.), late pick up from our program is NOT OPTIONAL. The penalty for late pick-up is $5 per minute per child (i.e. 1 minute late = $5, 2 minutes late = $10, 15 minutes late = $75, etc.). The church hall is used by many groups, therefore we cannot use the space past our scheduled time of 6:00pm. We also want to respect our aftercare staff's personal time. On Half Days, late fees will begin accruing at 4:05pm.
Discipline: We follow the same disciplinary procedures as the school. We will follow our PBIS program with a rewards system in place to promote positive behavior. Reflections will be given as necessary, but we will promote our SJA positive behavior goals: Step up to Respect, Jump to Responsibility, Accelerate to Leadership.
