Mathematics Department policy on homework grading:

Homework and class work are essential elements to success in any mathematics course. They provide the necessary practice required to process the information introduced in class. They also provide the student a mechanism to deepen their understanding of a lesson since the homework questions will not be exactly like the discussion questions or examples the teacher used in class. Students not attempting the majority of class work or homework questions will greatly jeopardize their mathematical learning and their grade in the class.

Homework grades, however, are not a very good indication of how a student is doing in a mathematics class. Most teachers allow collaboration between students during the class work. Teachers also provide guidance during the class work and a chance for students to ask questions after the homework has been attempted. All students should have near perfect homework grades if they take advantage of all the resources teachers provide.

The grades that reflect the knowledge gained by a student in the class are quiz, CFA's and test grades.

Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2

Grading:

Grades in my classes will have the following weights:

Tests (Chapter Tests): 60%
- Each test is worth 100 points
- Corrections
  - For students that score below 60%. Corrections only get you back up to a 60%!
  - To score higher than a 60% after taking the test you will need to complete test corrections and then complete a retest.
- Retests
  - Can be taken once you have completed test corrections and will allow only a new score up to an 80% or less if I choose
CFAs: 10%
- Each CFA is worth 10-15 points
  - Retakes
    - Can be taken once we have done Wad-ja-say Wednesday for that CFA.

Trigonometry/Pre-Calculus, AP Calculus, AP Statistics

Grading:

- Each test is worth 100 points
  - Corrections
    - For students that score below 60%. Corrections only get you back up to a 60%!
    - To score higher than a 60% after taking the test you will need to complete test corrections and then complete a retest.
  - Retests
    - Can be taken once you have completed test corrections and will allow only a new score up to an 80% or less if I choose.

Homework/Quizzes - 30%
- Quizzes replace a homework grade!
- Each homework assignment is worth 10 points
  - Must be complete and provide work to get credit. (All or nothing!)
  - Each assignment is due the day after the lesson is completed.
- Each quiz is worth 10-50 points
- Participation points (5) for each day, making a total of 25 per week
Keep for notebook organized! Do not mix HW and notes on the same paper.

Class Rules:

Follow ALL school rules and policies.
Participation is required.
Show Respect to everyone, no matter what.
Absolutely NO cellphones, mp3 players, iPods, or headphones allowed!
Always be ready to work.
