Feelings, Breathing and Self Regulation Strategies for the whole family!

Create a Calming Space in your Home:

Understanding Feelings

In most of my classes, we have watched this video and talked about the concept of "flipping our lid." This concept is helpful in understanding why it is so important to use strategies and coping skills for handling our emotions. Here is my favorite video as a refresher for your family!

It is important to be able to "name it to tame it." Help your child to identify, name and share their feelings. Building personal awareness is a precursor to understanding others and developing empathy.

Breathing!

Breathing is always recommended as a way to help kids regain control. It is important to practice breathing when you are calm, so that it is easier to actually use the technique when you are upset. Think of it as building up a muscle, the more you practice, the stronger the skill becomes!
