The Symposium on Computer Science and Student Mental Health is an event exploring the intersection of computer science and student mental health. Two main activities will be featured:
Student Presentations - Students will give presentations on technological solutions they have developed to help solve or ameliorate a student mental health issue. See the For Students page for more information if you would like to present. Symposium judges will score each presentation based on a rubric. The winning individual/team will receive mentoring from industry experts to discuss how their idea could be developed towards a working solution.
Guest Speakers - The event will feature a variety of interesting speakers on the interplay between student mental health and computer science. See the Speakers page for more information.
As you are undoubtedly aware, there has been a decline in student mental health since the dawn of the pandemic. While technology sometimes exacerbates this issue (e.g. social media, too much screen time, etc.) it also offers unique opportunities to make things better. Through guest speakers and student presentations, the symposium will explore various aspects of student mental health and possible solutions that computer science can offer.
The symposium will take place on Friday, January 27th. The schedule can be found here.
The event will take place at the Robert Louis Stevenson School located at:
24 W 74th St
New York, NY 10023
