Endorsement from Mayor Ken Peterson
Dear Resident:
I recently saw a news article and political literature where William Joyce says our infrastructure needs replacement, that there is not enough attention being given to that infrastructure and that if you elect him that he will bring a different view to the Village Board. He says he will continue to look for opportunities for the Village.
My question is how long do we give him to look? He has been a trustee for 8 years. What has he accomplished? Instead of saying what he has done he tells us he will “continue to look for other opportunities”. What we have achieved while he has been on the Village Board (new businesses, road repair, LED light replacement, more activities in Steger, getting through the pandemic, balanced budget, new police station, etc.) is because of the work of others. I do not feel he has contributed to our success like most of the other Trustees. He now wants to criticize our infrastructure to get re-elected even though, unlike other Trustees, he has done nothing to help us move forward.
Lucky for us, I cannot say the same for the other Village Trustee candidates. Trustee Tim Perchinski has worked with Robinson Engineering to secure a $40,000 grant for the Village, and he worked with me and Robinson Engineering to submit applications last month to obtain further money for our water pipes. Before becoming a Trustee last September, Trustee Gerald Stewart worked hard as Steger’s Recreation Board President. He guided all of our sports programs through the Covid pandemic and made sure each program survived and then thrived as we put the pandemic behind us. Fire & Police Commissioner Brittany Stone has worked hard getting new police officers hired for the Village of Steger. That takes a lot of work. Reviewing applications, testing the applicants, going through oral interviews and background checks. Because of our Fire & Police Board we have a first-class police department.
I know we live in a tight knit community and all candidates running are our friends. It is important though to look beyond friendships and elect those we know will work for us and make true progress, not just “look for opportunities”. When I look at each candidates’ contributions, it is clear to me who needs to be on our Village Board. That is why I am whole-heartedly endorsing the Together For Progress candidates Tim Perchinski, Gerald Stewart and Brittany Stone. I hope you share my view. I know we will all be better with Tim, Gerald and Brittany on our Village Board.
Sincerely,
Mayor Kenneth A. Peterson, Jr.
