Rev. John Boland

Years in Office: 1899-1907 and 1909-1914

Father John Boland served as vice president and director of studies at Sacred Heart College in Watertown, Wisconsin before his first term as president of St. Edward's University. In 1903 a fire gutted Main Building and Boland acted quickly to secure permission and funding to rebuild. Construction of a new dormitory and the repaired Main Building were completed in time for the 1903-1904 school year. Father Boland resigned in 1907 after experiencing a severe fall and citing the exhaustion of working to rebuild campus. He returned in 1909 and served until 1914, when he was appointed president of Columbia College in Portland, Oregon.
