Years in Office: 1999-2021
On the job for 21 years, Dr. George Martin is SEU's longest-serving president. With a doctorate in Political Science from Fordham University, he had previously served as academic vice president of St. Peter’s College (Jersey City). Dr. Martin brought SEU into the 21st century by making significant improvements to campus (adding the St. Andre Apartments and John Brooks Williams buildings), increasing enrollment and the graduation rate, and leading SEU to be recognized as one of the top regional universities in the West. He was also a prominent supporter of the CAMP and McNair programs and embraced the traditions of Holy Cross. At the end of his tenure he led the university through the challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic.
