Why does this matter?

Why This Matters:

Everything that we do effects our ecosystem. Less than 5% of plastics are recycled. This is a huge issue. Instead of recycling the plastic that people bring to the beach, they often just leave it there, not realizing the consequences. Some of these consequences include: an increase in Sea turtle buoyancy disorder, which comes from trapped gas and from them eating trash or plastic. This makes them float and more vulnerable to predators and boat accidents, impacts of marine plastics are the ingestion, suffocation and entanglement of hundreds of marine species, Marine wildlife such as seabirds, whales, fishes and turtles, mistake plastic waste for prey, and most die of starvation as their stomachs are filled with plastic debris, Floating plastics also contribute to the spread of invasive marine organisms and bacteria, which disrupt ecosystems. These are only few of the reasons of why this matters and why a change needs to be made.
