The Effects

The Effects:

This effects of marine pollution causes a large amount of destress in the ocean. Less than 5% of plastics are recycled, which leaves much of the debris floating in our waters. Plastic bags are petroleum based and are not biodegradable. The volunteers in our area have sampled 18 sites for microplastics and 16 out of those have tested positive for it. Specifically, Sea turtles and other marine creatures mistake plastics and other garbage as food (such as jellyfish) and ingest it. This mistake causes blockages within their digestive system and eventual death. This alone displays how much we are in need in changes in the ways we recycle and reuse our trash.
