Our thoughts on Remembrance
Year 6 have been reflecting on Remembrance and have written poems entitled 'Why Remember?'
Why Remember? by Toby W
“Why remember?” I hear you ask,
And now, I believe it is my task,
To tell you why Remembrance Day
Is committed to those, whose bodies decay.
Gunfire here, a dying man’s cry there,
We remember these, lest we forget.
In Flanders Fields, infinite bodies rot,
But their life stories aren’t to be forgot,
For these umpteen corpses, their bravery speaks
Of why their remains are not rotting in creeks.
Gunfire here, a dying man’s cry there,
In Flanders Fields, lest we forget.
World War Two, ending in 1945
Completed numerous stories of those who strived
To foil the wanton death that accompanies war,
Which has always been humanity's biggest flaw.
Gunfire here, a dying man’s cry there,
Eight decades ago, lest we forget.
Gunfire here, a dying man’s cry there,
Our country remembers, lest we forget.
