The Resource Room at St. Clair High School is designed to develop, strengthen, and improve skills for positive academic performance and achievement. Through content area course work, pre- and post- teaching, cognitive learning strategies are taught which focus on comprehension and memory skills, organizational and study skills, and test taking strategies. Self-advocacy skills and transitional planning are also part of the instructional program. Students' progress is monitored and reviewed throughout the year according to their IEPs (Individual Educational Plans).
Resource Room Goals:
· To assist the students in becoming as independent and successful as they can
· To monitor the student’s progress toward meeting the IEP goals and to assist the student in successfully completing all courses of study
· To maintain communication with the student, parents, teachers, guidance counselors and other staff involved with the education of the student
· To introduce and develop skills needed for learning
Procedures:
1. Students will come to the resource room ready to work. They may find an area of the room that will be comfortable and accommodating to their learning.
2. Students will get out all materials needed to begin their work whether it be for homework, subject instruction, or projects.
3. Students will work independently. It is important they are mindful of other students in the room. When they need help, ask in a respectful manner being sure not to disrupt other students.
4. Students are to be checking planners/class grades online daily to ensure all homework was completed.
Expectations:
-all students should use a planner or method of keeping track of assignments
-a pass sheet is required to use the restroom, printer, or leave the room. If a student is on the restricted list, teacher discretion will be used.
-when taking tests, students will be required to leave their cell phones in the cell phone basket
-headphones or earbuds may only be used to listen to music in the resource room at the discretion of the teacher.
-students are not allowed to ask staff to buy pop, fill water bottles, or put food in staff lounge refrigerators. The staff lounge is off limits to students and their belongings.
-The use of cell phones will be monitored by the special education teacher and staff. If a student is distracted by the use of their cell phone they will be asked to put phone away or asked to take phone to the office where they can pick it up at the end of the day.
Grading: Grading accommodations and modifications will be made per each individual student's IEPs.

3. Attend class daily.
