Daily Grades
Middle school students (grades 6 through 8) earn a daily grade for each class period of music. This grade is an informal assessment of each student’s learning for the day and is numerically assessed out of 5 points as follows:
5 (A) = The student is consistently or almost consistently engaged in class material and positively contributes to the class learning environment. The student consistently or almost consistently demonstrates comprehension of class content through the designated mode(s) of learning as correlated with the Archdiocesan music standards for the day (aural, oral, kinesthetic, visual, written). The student takes ownership of learning and demonstrates this comprehension independently.
4.5 (B) = The student is mostly engaged in class material and positively contributes to the class learning environment. The student mostly demonstrates comprehension of class content through the designated mode(s) of learning as correlated with the Archdiocesan music standards for the day (aural, oral, kinesthetic, visual, written). The student requires some reminders of content expectations and/or redirection throughout the class period.
4 (C) = The student is somewhat engaged in class material and occasionally contributes to the class learning environment. The student sometimes demonstrates comprehension of class content through the designated mode(s) of learning as correlated with the Archdiocesan music standards for the day (aural, oral, kinesthetic, visual, written). The student requires more than a few reminders of content expectations and/or redirection throughout the class period.
3.5 (D) = The student is seldom engaged in class material and does not contribute positively to the class learning environment. The student seldom demonstrates comprehension of class content through the designated mode(s) of learning as correlated with the Archdiocesan music standards for the day (aural, oral, kinesthetic, visual, written). The student requires many reminders of content expectations and/or redirection throughout the class period.
3 (U) = The student is not engaged in class material and does not contribute positively to the class learning environment. The student does not demonstrate comprehension of class content through the designated mode(s) of learning as correlated with the Archdiocesan music standards for the day (aural, oral, kinesthetic, visual, written). The student does not respond to redirection and reminders. The student prevents him/herself from learning and disrupts the learning of peers. Parent contact is initiated.
