A day in the life of Year Two...

A typical day for us...

The children's day starts with some early morning work at 8.40 a.m. This may be a short handwriting or reading activity for example.

They take part in collective worship and prayers daily.

Every morning the children have Numeracy, Literacy and phonics lessons before lunch.

Our foundation subjects are usually taught in the afternoon.

The children have an afternoon play at 2 p.m. and we usually finish the day with a story or 'Talk About Time'.

Homework

Year 2 Homework

Homework

Homework is given out on Thursdays to be handed in on the following Wednesday. This will support learning in class and could be linked to either Literacy, Numeracy, R.E or Science.

Reading

We encourage children to read at least 5 times a week for 10 minutes. We change reading books every Wednesday if a comment has been made in the reading record book.

The children are given two books every Wednesday and also have an online book assigned every Friday via the Oxford Owl website.

Spellings

Spellings

The children are sent home a copy of their weekly spellings at the beginning of each half-term.

They will be tested on their weekly spellings every Tuesday morning and their results will be recorded in their reading record every Wednesday.

Alongside their weekly spellings, the children are expected to know how to spell words from the list of Year 2 common exception words and be able to apply them to their everyday writing.

More guidance on Y2 spellings can be found here including top tips, videos and resources.
