This unit introduces students to how the forces of supply and demand interact to determine the allocation of resources and the production of goods and services within an economy.
Students will explore contemporary economic issues, including the housing market, and may also have the opportunity to develop their saving and investing skills through participation in the ASX Sharemarket Game. Throughout the unit, students will investigate key economic indicators such as employment and economic growth in Australia, while also examining Australia's role in the global economy and its relationships with international trading partners.

Major Focus – Government, Democracy, Young People and the Law
In this unit, students gain an understanding of the Federal Government structure, democracy and the importance of voting, the Victorian legal system and methods of resolving legal disputes.
Students will also examine common issues involving young people and the law. Students observe the role of the police as well as their rights and responsibilities as citizens.
A special focus on contemporary laws and cases regarding young people will also be explored.

Major Focus – Small Business Skills
Description
This unit is aimed at introducing students to the basic skills of business. This involves planning a start-up business, developing a marketing plan and financial record keeping. Students look at how advertising and marketing strategies can contribute to business success. Students will also get to play the ASX Sharemarket Game and learn about investing.
