My Ski Trip by Gabriela
(13th Feb, 2023 – 17th Feb, 2023)
Monday
My classmates, teachers, and I went on a ski trip to the High Tatras in Tatranská Lomnica. Our trip started with leaving from Trenčín. We went by school bus. We made nearly 3-hour journey more enjoyable with music and eating snacks that we brought with us. When we arrived at the hotel, we were full of expectation for our rooms, but unfortunately they weren't ready at the time, so we changed together in the common room, while some of us preferred to use the bathroom. After changing and getting ready, we eagerly got back on the bus and headed towards Tatranská Lomnica. There, we changed into our ski boots, grabbed our skis, and hit the slopes. The teachers divided us into groups based on our skiing abilities. The weather was really beautiful. It was pleasantly warm. My group first headed to a smaller slope where we learned how to ski. We all did great. After a short skiing session, we returned to the hotel where our rooms were finally ready.
Tuesday
We started the second day with breakfast. Then, we began another skiing adventure. Everyone gradually improved, and we were able to move on to a steeper slope. From morning until lunchtime, we skied, rode the cable cars, and enjoyed the sunny day. We returned to the hotel with hungry stomachs and were curious about what was waiting for us in the dining room. After lunch, we had some free time, and we could do whatever we wanted. In the evening, a program was prepared for us to get to know each other better.
Wednesday
On the third day, we skied for a shorter time because later we had a rest in the form of a water park or a walk to Hrebienok. We could choose where to go. I chose Aquacity Poprad. There, we had fun on the water slides and relaxed in the outdoor pools. At the end of the evening, we attended a light show. The others enjoyed ice sculptures on Hrebienok.
Thursday
The penultimate day, we were all skiing quite well and without the special supervision of teachers. We still went in groups for safety in case something happened to someone. The weather was unbelievable, just like the previous days. We tried steeper slopes, like Čučoriedka, and we could have gone even higher, but I didn't dare. After dinner, my group of friends decided to go outside, and our medic approved this spontaneous idea, so we threw ourselves half-naked into the snow. After that, full of adrenaline, we took a warm shower. In the evening, a small disco awaited us at the hotel. We played billiards and table tennis.
Friday
The last day of our trip. In the morning, we packed up all our things and went to the slope for the last time. We enjoyed the last few hours, despite the weather not being as perfect as before. The whole week went by very quickly. Our singing accompanied us on the way home. This trip will be a great memory for us. We got to know each other more as classmates, and it helped develop our relationships. I would love to do it again.
MY SKI-TRIP TO THE HIGH TATRAS by Daniela
Hey everyone, it’s been a while since I last uploaded my little blog. First of all, I am terribly sorry if my writing seems a bit shabby because of the lack of writing I had. Please bear with me guys I am sure it will get better after a while :). I know for a fact that you all are really interested in knowing where I was all this time. And I won’t keep you all tense for too long! I was on a ski-trip with my fellow classmates. The ski-trip took place in The High Tatras- one of the most breath-taking places in Slovakia. When I first heard about it, I was really looking forward to all the tall greyish mountains covered with snow, a breath of fresh mountain air playing with my hair and all the spectacular views that stay in my mind forever. But to be completely honest I was a bit scared of skiing since I haven’t done it for YEARS.
Our journey started on Monday 13th February, 2023). We set off from Trenčín early in the morning. I would say a bit too early, the sun hasn’t even risen, and I would gladly welcome a few more hours of sleep. The bus ride was a bit cramped, but it wasn’t that big of a worry. A few moments later the night sky began to be filled with a countless shade of red, yellow, and orange as the sun was rising from the horizon. When we finally got to see all the mountain peaks covered in clear white snow everyone felt mesmerized by that gaze. It was simply beautiful. That same day we went skiing for the first time. Everything felt a little rushed for me I wasn’t really used to that place from the start, so my first experience wasn’t perfect. My legs were shaking like crazy, and I was going slower than a snail. But I decided not to give up and keep trying. In the evening we had some kind of presentation on how to stay safe in the mountains. First night was really peaceful. I phoned my mom and had a long conversation with her. I complained about the food for a while, it was a bit plain for my taste.
The next day I woke up to a sunny morning. I was extremely glad for the amazing view we had from our room. Especially that morning, we could see the hills clearly in all their beauty. I was all hyped up for the day. That day skiing seemed easier. I changed my group because of my knee which gave me a chance to get to know our nurse. The time when we went up the hill by cableway, I dedicated to just sit back and enjoy myself. The scenery was unforgettable. I started to become more sure in my skiing and my legs weren’t trembling like crazy. But I still could see some things that I should work on more. When we finished, I was finally looking forward to skiing more the next day. When we got back me, and my friends enjoyed some time together playing cards and chitchatting . Later that day we had some activities to get to know the other class. That night I fell exhausted to my bed and enjoyed my night sleep.
Wednesday was a rather relaxing day. We only skied until lunch and after that we were given two options. The first one consisted of relaxing evening in the luxury spa AquaCity Poprad and the second one was a hike on Hrebienok where we could visit the “TATRANSKÝ ĽADOVÝ DÓM”. I chose the second option. We were able to see bunch of amazingly made ice figures and you could really see that people that make them really love their job. Me and my friends went for a hot chocolate after, and it was delicious. But for that price I expected nothing less. After we took pictures of everything within our reach as your usual tourists would do, we took a cog railway down to Starý Smokovec. With all the lights and roofs covered with snow the place looked magical. We waited for our train and went back to our lodge. That evening a risotto was awaiting us for the dinner, and it was then that I learned that not everyone can cook good rice.
Our trip was coming to an end. I was happy because I was finally getting a hold of my skiing. When I thought that tomorrow I would be home again a brief flash of sadness filled me. I was really enjoying myself surrounded by my classmates it was really fun but at the same time I was looking forward to see my family again. Thursday night we had a disco party but before, me and my group of friends had this crazy idea to go out into the freezing cold snow half naked only in swimsuits. Our teacher accepted this idea which surprised us. We really are blessed to have her as a teacher since she is an amazing teacher and even more amazing person. I very much enjoyed our snowball fight while my toes were freezing cold because I felt that this connected us more as a friend group. Later that night we enjoyed some loud music at the disco and danced till midnight.
The day of our departure has occurred. We skied only till lunch again. I felt sorry to say goodbye to my skis. I put them away with the thought that one day I will wipe the dust off them once again and enjoy a long ride down some hill (not too fierce hill though). I really enjoyed the ride back home because girls were blasting loud music and all of us were screaming our hearts out. When I got back home, I was welcomed by my family, and I gave a big hug to my granny.
I loved this ski-trip it was truly an irreplaceable experience. Regardless of the skiing part which was amazing I got to know my friends much more personally which I am really grateful for. If I could go back to my old self who was disagreeing to go, I would just smack her and tell her how much fun I had and how much I treasure this trip.
I hope you enjoyed my little dump of thoughts guys! I am looking forward to all of the great adventures that are waiting ahead of me, and I can say for sure that you all will be a part of it! I am really grateful for all of the support you guys showed me in the last few days. I wish you all happy early Easter and see you all next time. Love ya <3
