STORM THEATER is remembered by most people as LEE DRAMA. It was re-titled when the name of the high school changed in the summer of 2019. The theater program at the High School has had a strong reputation for decades, no matter what name it was under, and continues to do so to this day. We are known for mounting excellent musicals that nearly reach a professional quality, creating innovative staging and design, and choosing shows that provide growth and challenges for all our students. With its renovated Auditorium and newly added Studio Theater, Staunton High boasts some of the best theater facilities in the region, and its excellent drama program has been a source of pride for years.
I begin teaching at the high school in 1995 and directed my first production in 2001. We were a young and very small group who performed a Fall show, the VHSL one-act, a Spring Musical, and at one point, an improv group every year. As we grew, we helped renovate the auditorium, we brought chorus back into our high school curriculum after it had been dropped, and we began to foster relationships and build community outside our school. Our program has been blessed by amazing community, fellow educator, and school administrative support and hard work throughout the years. Now, we thrive in our current program where I serve as the stage director and producer for the Spring Musical.
I began teaching in 2006 and joined the theater program at the High School back in 2007. When I became a part of what was then Lee Drama, it was already an exciting, well-run, solid program. It was a privilege to become a part of a group of talented teachers and students. Since joining, I have been directing the Fall Mainstage shows, and eventually the VHSL one acts starting in 2014. I now teach the Theater Arts courses offered by Staunton High School. We are all very proud to have a drama program that has a strong past, an exciting present and a very promising future.
