How to Enter the Writing Contest
The Artful Reflections Writing Contest encourages Staunton City students in grades 3 - 12 and staff members to write a poem or prose piece inspired by artwork created by our students and art teachers. Deadline for submissions is March 6, 2026, at 4pm.

Who can enter?
Who can enter?
Any student in grades 3 - 12 who attends a Staunton City School can enter the contest. Staff members are also encouraged to enter in the adult category.

All pieces are due on March 6, 2026, by 4pm.
What are the expectations for the writing?
What are the expectations for the writing?
Interested students and staff members can enter one original and previously unpublished piece in the form of a poem or prose writing. Prose pieces should be limited to 1,000 words or less. Poems should be no more than 2 pages, single-spaced.
How will writing pieces be judged?
How will writing pieces be judged?
Submitted pieces will be judged separately at the Elementary level (grade 3-5), Middle School level (grade 6-8), High School level (9-12), and Adult level (SCS staff).
When will winners be announced?
When will winners be announced?
Judges will select three winning pieces at each contest level. Winners will be announced by April 7, 2026. The winning poetry and prose pieces, along with the artwork that inspired the pieces of writing, will be compiled in an anthology.
