Student Council 2021 - 2022

Role of the Student Council:

· To aid the school in reaching its goals as stated in the school philosophy.

· To maintain and increase school spirit and school pride.

· To foster an environment of positive and constructive peer leadership.

· To act as a constructive vehicle for positively voicing to the school community student options and concerns.

Members of the Student Council

Home Room Officers (Class Representatives)

Class Representatives from Grades 1-8 – (2 Representatives for each grade)

· Responsible to attend all meetings.

· Responsible to bring the ideas and concerns of their class to the student council.

· Responsible to inform their class about decisions made by the student.

· Responsible to be a good role model for fellow students and for exhibiting proper behavior expected of all students at St. Athanasius Catholic Academy.

· Representatives must be students who have good attendance without excessive lateness, be in good academic standing, good behavior, have ambition to work hard, leadership qualities and collaborate well with peers.

The Home Room Officers (Class Representatives) will be elected by the homeroom teacher, Mrs. Auricchio and Mrs. Competello.


IF YOU ARE A STUDENT COUNCIL CLASS REPRESENTATIAVE OR OFFICER AND YOU ARE NOT ABLE TO COMPLETE ANY STUDENT COUNCIL ASSIGNMENTS BY THE DUE DATE – YOU WILL BE ASKED TO STEP DOWN AND TAKEN OUT OF YOUR ROLE.

FAILURE AT ANY TIME BY AN ELECTED OFFICIAL TO MEET THE RESPONSIBILITIES OF HIS/HER POSITION IS GROUNDS FOR DISMISSAL FROM THE STUDENT COUNCIL.

If you want to become a Student Council Class Representative or Student Council Officer – You must submit an essay explaining why you would be the best person for that position. Your essay should include the following:

1. Introduction about yourself – name, grade, some fun facts about you! (for example – your personality, hobbies, interests)

2. The qualities you have that make you the best person for that position. (for example – are you a good leader? Are you able to get things done? Are you motivated to work during meetings? Do you work well with others? Are you up-to-date with all your school work?

3. The ideas you have to help St. Athanasius Catholic Academy. (for example – fundraising ideas, creative thoughts for trips, monthly events, yearly events)

4. Conclude with: If you are elected a Student Council Member -what are some of things you would like to see happen at our school and how you plan to get it done?

You can type your essay – Only 2 paragraphs is necessary.

Each day the students should arrive with 5 sharpened pencils.

Please send in a notebook for Italian! We have Italian on Mondays.

In October, we will begin praying a decade of the rosary in the morning. Please give your child rosary beads that they can hold in their backpack and use in the morning.

Student Supplies

  • 9 – composition notebooks (100 pages)Please label each with subject and name. (Math, Social Studies, Science, Reading/ELA, Religion, Spelling/Vocabulary, Writing/Journal, Reading Log, and Homework)

  • 2 – folders labeled, (Homework/Notices, and Scholastic)

  • 1 – box of No. 2 pencils – at least 5 sharpened daily.

  • Pencil sharpener

  • 1 – crayons (24 pack)

  • 1 – box of washable thin markers and/or colored pencils

  • 1 – child-sized scissors

  • 1 glue stick

  • 1 – 12-inch ruler (not metal)

  • 1 – soft pencil case (no hard plastic boxes or metal cases will be permitted).

  • 2 – Independent Chapter Reading Books

  • 1 – Package of loose leaf paper (wide ruled with margin)

  • 1 – Highlighter

  • 1 – Black sharpie

  • 1 – Package of Expo dry eraser markers, black and or multi-color.

  • 4 large stretch book covers for textbooks.

  • 1- pack of colored construction paper

  • 1 pack of lined index cards

  • 1 pack of sticky notes (large size)

  • Face mask, individual-sized hand sanitizer, pocket-size tissues, sanitizing wipes, water bottle with lockable snap lid, (these personal items will be at student’s own desk).

  • Headphones/earbuds for the ipad will be needed – please place in a zip lock bag with your child’s name for safe keeping.

Classroom Supplies

  • 2- boxes of tissues

  • 1 hand sanitizer -large

  • 1 roll of bounty paper towels

  • 1 – package of baby wipes

  • 2 large – Clorox/Lysol disinfectant wipes

  • 1 Lysol disinfectant air spray

  • 1 box gallon size ziplock bags (if the last name begins A-K)

  • 1 box sandwich size ziplock bags (if the last name begins L-Z)

  • 1 ream of white copy/printing paper

  • 1 Epson 126/127 printer cartridge 1black and/or 1 color (optional wish list :)

  • Home Supplies

  • 1 roll of clear contact paper to cover soft workbooks only, all workbooks must be covered.

  • 1 box of envelopes (letter size white)

  • 1 – package of loose leaf paper (wide ruled with margin)

  • index cards

  • 1 – ruler

  • Construction paper

  • Pencils, crayons, washable markers

  • Oak tag
