Message to Volunteers

Happy Colorado Day! As Colorado celebrates it 142nd birthday today, we want to thank you for all that you do to protect the resources that makes this state such an amazing place. If you haven't yet hit that magical 48 hours to earn your free volunteer parks pass, be sure to take advantage of our own way of celebrating Colorado Day next Monday, August 6 when all 41 state parks will be waiving their entrance fees. Not sure which park to visit? See this list of suggested parks to enjoy on your next visit.

With the heat and wildfires that have seemed to be a constant companion this summer, we hope that all of you are staying safe and have been able to find some time yourselves to enjoy the outdoors. We wanted to share reminder below of the amazing impact that you have as a volunteer. Please enjoy the thank you cards that we received from some third grade students who recently went through one of our recent Lake Lehow Fishing Clinics. These clinics are aimed at young school children to help boost their interest in outdoor activities. They start with a quick lesson about fish, riparian environments, and good fishing practices. Then our CPW volunteers demonstrate for the children, how to cast and give them each an opportunity to perfect their technique in the parking lot before hitting the lake. The rest of the day is spent at the lake with kids yelling, "fish on!" once they've hooked a fish, and laughs of excitement over their catch. Thank you to all of the volunteers (and our amazing staff) that make our fishing clinics possible. We think it is a great example of how the work you do as a volunteer can inspire a love and curiosity for the outdoors for the next generation.
