When facing a layoff, ask your company’s HR representative these important questions before you leave. Knowing this information in advance will help you prepare for what lies ahead.

• When is my last day?

• When will I get my last paycheck?

• Will I be paid for unused vacation time?

• Will I get a retention bonus or other pay related to my separation?

• What happens to my bonuses/commissions? How will they be paid and when? 

• When will my employer-sponsored health coverage end? What is the process for signing up for COBRA coverage? 

• What are my 401K options after my employment ends?

• Is my group life insurance portable to another plan? 

• Am I eligible for rehire? 

• May I use you as a positive reference?

• Will you be providing job assistance through an outplacement firm?
