Test Your Knowledge Questions:

1) Since clarification has been added to the RAI for the October 2024 update, would Septicemia be coded in I2100 without a positive blood culture? 

2) If the need for a significant correction of a prior comprehensive was found, would the ARD of the significant correction be corrected? It seems counterintuitive as the error may be resolved when it is discovered. 

3) A resident was admitted to the facility on 9/30/21 and discharged on 11/4/2021. Medicare requested an ADR and determined that the HIPPS code was inaccurately billed at KAGC1 stating septicemia was coded inaccurately. A review of the chart agrees with Medicare's determination that the HIPPS code should have been KAPC1.

Per RAI Chapter 5.7 "A correction can be submitted for any accepted record within 2 years of the target date of the record for facilities that are still open." Since we are 3 years out from the date of assessment, and the resident was discharged 3 years ago, do we still need to submit a modification/correction/deletion?

4) Question regarding offering the pneumococcal vaccine:

When a resident who is not up to date on the pneumonia vaccine, was offered and agreed to receive the vaccine, but the vaccine is not available from the pharmacy until after the ARD, how would Item O0300: Pneumococcal Vaccine be coded?
