Minimum Data Set (MDS) 3.0 Item Sets version (v)1.18.11

The final Minimum Data Set (MDS) 3.0 Item Sets version (v)1.18.11 have been updated and is now available in the Downloads section on the Minimum Data Set (MDS) 3.0 Resident Assessment Instrument (RAI) Manual page. The IPA, NP, and SP Item Sets have been replaced with revised versions; the remaining item sets remain unchanged from the last posted version. The MDS Item Sets v1.18.11 will be effective beginning October 01, 2023.

Q0610 Referral

Per the RAI Guidance Manual, a “yes” response to item Q0500B will trigger follow-up care planning and contact with the designated local contact agency (LCA) about the resident’s request within approximately 10 business days (or according to state policy) of a yes response being given. This code is intended to initiate contact with the LCA for follow-up as the resident desires. The resident's medical record should support the steps taken to aid the resident in returning to the community.

Follow-up is expected in a “reasonable” amount of time and 10 business days is a recommendation and not a requirement.

The Optional State Assessment (OSA) will not be required by Colorado

On July 1, 2023, Colorado transitioned to PDPM for the nursing component only along with RUGS. Because of this, Colorado will not require the OSA come October 1, 2023.

Come July 1, 2024, Colorado will transition to all components of the PDPM and will no longer use RUGS. It was determined that this would be an easier transition for you, the providers than having to change everything all at once or have to complete two assessments if the OSA was required.

The Case-Mix Index (CMI) values in effect on 10/01/2022 will be used as they were consistently used for all quarters in the rate sheet.

Be on the Lookout...

For those of you who were unable to attend the in-person MDS training held in Denver and Grand Junction at the beginning of May, there will be self-paced learning made available next month. A separate communication will be sent, so please be on the lookout. The training will cover Section GG, PDPM, SPADEs, MDS Item Set Changes, and Medication and Diagnosis Coding Accuracy. Resources provided at the in-person training will be included, as well as the Questions and Answers that came out of the training.
