With all that goes on in our day-to-day life, both at home and work, it is easy to overlook taking care of ourselves. Since February is Heart Month (Valentine's Day!), I thought this might be a good time for some reflection.
This year could be your best year yet when it comes to heart health. Moving more, eating right and making less room for stress in your daily routine are just some ways of improving your life. It is all up to you!
Even though we try to take care of ourselves, there are some factors, such as family history, that are outside of our control. So, I thought this would be a good time to share some heart health warning signs:
Chest discomfort that last more than a few minutes or goes away and comes back.
Discomfort in other areas of the upper body; one or both arms, back, neck, jaw, or stomach.
Shortness of breath can be with or without chest discomfort.
Other signs of nausea, lightheadedness, or breaking out in a cold sweat.
Uncomfortable pressure, squeezing, feeling of fullness, or pain in the center of the chest that lasts more than a few minutes or goes away and comes back.
Pain or discomfort in one or both arms, back, neck, jaw, or stomach.
Shortness of breath with or without chest discomfort.
Other signs such as nausea, lightheadedness, or breaking out in a cold sweat.
Most common symptom is chest pain or discomfort. More times than not, women are more likely to experience some of the other symptoms.
Sudden numbness or weakness of the face, arm or leg, especially on one side of the body.
Sudden confusion, trouble speaking or understanding.
Sudden trouble seeing in one or both eyes.
Sudden trouble walking, dizziness, loss of balance or coordination.
Sudden, severe headache with no known cause.
Every second counts, because time lost is brain lost!
