Classroom Happenings

January 2024

3B is back and ready for a strong second half of the year!

We began our year by recommitting to our academic objectives.  Focus, concentration and self-control have become our guiding principles and we have named them as our new super powers!  As part of  our New Year's Classroom Resolutions, each student chose a word to focus on for the remainder of the year, and wrote about how they will use this word to guide them each day.  Pictures of each student's word creation are included.  Can you guess which one is your student's?

We also have discussed how we can become a more faith-centered student.  Students created New Year's Resolutions on how they can get closer to God, ways they can help people, and people they will pray for.  Both  activities produced a lot of good reflection and introspection.

Preparing for Grade 4 is also part of our New Year.  Part of this preparation requires each student to master their multiplication facts for tables 0-12.  We will also be working more independently for longer periods of time.  Students need the stamina to read informational text more than one time and to use text evidence to answer questions.  This will be part of our classroom instruction.

December 2023

December was a busy month for us!  Rehearsals and preparations for the Christmas pageant took priority once we returned from our Thanksgiving break.  Our class was eager to move up to the "big kids" part of the stage/altar and embraced their new-found celebrity on the risers.

We also prepared for the Sacrament of Reconciliation on December 14th. It was a great way to embrace the peace of the season.  The children were filled with the grace and love of Our Beloved Lord.

Several groups of students have formed a book club.  These book clubs are voluntary and are totally student-directed.  It is a great teacher moment to be able to listen to their discussions on their reading.  The groups are focused and have come to embrace the joy of reading and talking with your peers about what they have read.
