2019 Press Release

Starpoint High School Musical Club to Produce 42nd Street March 7-9, 2019

Starpoint High School looks to follow up last year’s award winning season with one of the most iconic dance musicals, 42nd Street. On March 7th the curtain will rise to reveal 40 pairs of tap dancing feet that will immediately send audiences back to Broadway in the 1930’s. Each musical number is an energy-infused extravaganza that will delight audiences young and old. Over 110 high school students of the cast, crew, and pit band have been working since the beginning of November to create a production that will live up to audience expectations. The show runs at Starpoint High School on March 7th at 7:00, March 8th at 7:00, and March 9th at 2:00 and 7:00.

In 1933 times are tough for everyone in New York, but even tougher for those trying to make it on Broadway. 42nd Street has a big-name director, Julian Marsh (Gino Thompson) and a famous actress, Dorothy Brock (Brooke Allen) who are both determined to work their way back to the top. Their goal is to produce Pretty Lady, a show with such glam and glitter that it could be a success even during the Great Depression. Just as the show is about to make it big, Dorothy Brock breaks her ankle and aspiring talent Peggy Sawyer (Lauren Stevens) will need to step in for the show to go on! This timeless classic features songs like “The Lullaby of Broadway,” “We’re in the Money,” the title hit “42nd Street,” and many other classics you’ll be sure to recognize.

Records were broken again last year as over 3,600 people packed Starpoint’s high school auditorium for Mary Poppins. And, for the first time ever, Starpoint was the recipient of the Kenny Award for Best Production from Shea’s Performing Arts Center. The club earned a total of 7 Kenny Awards including Best Dance Performance which fueled the fire for this year’s undertaking of 42nd Street. The magnitude of the tap dancing in 42nd Street requires an experienced cast and an award winning choreographer. Starpoint also won awards for Best Dramatic Performance and Best Technical Design. A notable individual award for Outstanding Actress in a Supporting Role went to Magdalene Lord for her performance as Winifred Banks. She returns to Starpoint’s stage for her senior year as Maggie Jones, the co-writer and producer of Pretty Lady.

The pit is full of talented musicians, the cast is full of talented dancers and vocalists, and the technical students have built a professional quality show. All that’s needed now is you in the audience. Tickets are only $5 for students and senior citizens and $10 for adults. Tickets are general admission seating and will be available at the door. You can also buy your tickets presale from the High School Office and Central Office beginning February 19. The best value of all will be Thursday, March 7th, as the Starpoint PTA will host its annual Spaghetti Dinner. A senior citizen can get dinner and a show for only $10. A family of four is only $45 for dinner and a show. Please come support local theatre in March! Showtimes again are March 7th at 7:00, March 8th at 7:00, and March 9th at 2:00 and 7:00.
