Kenny Awards @ Shea's

Starpoint High School takes home The Kenny for Outstanding Musical Production on May 12th!

"It has been a dream and a focus of the Starpoint High School Musical Club to win the Kenny Award for Best Musical for over 7 years. We have built a club with a total package for young students of the theatre. Children will leave Starpoint knowing all aspects of the stage; an actor will do more than act. Students are also taught that there is no one person on the team that is more important than the other. A production of our magnitude is only possible when nearly 100 students are working together for the greater good of the production. Shea's, The Kenny Awards, and The Lipke Foundation have recognized this and we are elated. Feelings of vindication and utter joy run through the hallways of Starpoint and I am so thankful.

It is important to recognize the team of directors that made this year possible, without them this win would not have happened. But I must also recognize those that were a part of the nine previous years. Many directors have moved on and I will not forget them and their dedication. And, a special thank you goes to the newest director on the team. Amanda Kennedy was the driving force that took Starpoint back to the Kenny's this year when many of us were almost too exhausted. This was the season. This was the cast. This was the year when all the stars were perfectly aligned, and Starpoint came out on top"

The results of each individual award are below. We are very proud of all our nominations and awards over the past 4 years. We'd like to thank Shea's Performing Arts, the Lipke Foundation, and the Kenny Award Program for recognizing our efforts as entire musical program that is for the students and run by the students. After 10 years of building the Starpoint High School Musical Club, we are proud to be an elite program in Western New York.

2017's Kenny Awards

Two months after the last performance of Beauty and the Beast, the club was still rehearsing and performing. But, this time it was on the stage of Shea’s Performing Arts for the 2017 Kenny Awards. The cast put together a medley of four songs and blended vocal and choreography to put on a highlight performance of the night. The entire day at Shea’s students impressed Shea’s staff with talent and outstanding character. Compliments poured in about the students and Starpoint was well represented at their second Kenny Award appearance.

As for the awards, 10 schools were nominated for the 2017 Kenny’s. Of the 12 different award categories, Starpoint’s Beauty and the Beast received 8 nominations, tying them with two other schools for the most nominations. From those nominations, the club received 2 well-deserved awards. Jake Grear a junior at Starpoint, received “Best Actor in a Supporting Role” for his role as LeFou. And the production was also recognized for “Best Technical Design,” making this the second time the musical club crew has been awarded. Two years ago they received “Best Scenic Design” for The Phantom of the Opera.

Starpoint Musical Club is honored to be nominated again for the Kenny Awards at Shea’s Performing Arts Center. This is Starpoint’s third nomination in the last four years. Previous productions of The Phantom of the Opera 2015, and Beauty and the Beast 2017, have received 6 Kenny Awards and a total of 20 Kenny Award Nominations. The 2018 Kenny Awards will take place on May 12th at Shea’s Performing Arts Center where all cast members from nominated schools are given the chance to perform on the professional stage.
