Meet The Teachers

I am Mrs. Kurpiewski, and I will be your third grade teacher this year!  This will be my 16th year teaching in the Starpoint Central School District.  I feel very lucky to be a faculty member at the Regan Intermediate building.  Prior to teaching at Starpoint, I taught fifth grade for three years in the Tonawanda City School District.  Before I worked in Tonawanda, I taught third grade at St. Stephen School on Grand Island for three years.  I absolutely love working with students at the intermediate level because they start to be such deep thinkers, and we can have such interesting discussions.  I can't wait to meet all of my new students!

Now I'll tell you a little bit more about myself.  I grew up on Grand Island with my parents and two younger brothers.  I went to Niagara University to earn my Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education.  I hold professional teaching certificates in Early Childhood Education and Childhood Education.  After attending Niagara University, I went on to earn a Master's Degree in Literacy at Canisius College.  This will be my 22nd year of teaching in the classroom.  I have a feeling it is going to be the best year yet!

I live in Niagara Wheatfield with Mr. Kurpiewski and our ten year old twin boys, Alex and Timmy.   

Outside of school, I love to read, garden, exercise, and spend time with my family and friends. I can't wait to learn more about all of you!  We are going to have a fantastic third grade year.  I am looking forward to all of the learning that we will do together!

I am Mrs. Gunby and I will be co-teaching with Mrs. Kurpiewski this year!  Mrs. Kurpiewski and I have been working together for 15 years and I am beyond excited to work with her this year!  I started teaching at Starpoint School in 2000 right after I graduated college from SUNY Fredonia.  All of that time has been spent in 3rd grade with the exception of my first year, in which I taught Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grade.  I have my degrees in Elementary Education, Special Education, Social Studies grades 7-9 and Early Childhood Education.  Teaching is one of my passions and I cannot wait to meet each and every one of you!

I grew up in Newfane, NY and I currently live there.  My whole family is from Newfane and they are extremely important to me!  I have a big family and spend most of my free time with them.  I have 3 children: Connor (21), Luke (19) and Sadie (13).  This year I will have 2 children in college and 1 child in middle school!!  If anyone understands the demands of family and the importance of family time and juggling outside schedules, it is me!  I am always available to help and reach out to.  We are a very sports-oriented family and are BIG Buffalo Bills fans!  Some of my favorite things to do are shopping and crafting.   I also love to play softball and volleyball.
