Suggested Activity: Before you read an unfamiliar story, remind your child to visualize or “make a movie” in his/her mind to represent the story (do not show your child the pictures). After reading 1-2 or more pages, ask questions to determine how much info has been remembered or have your child retell the information using his/her own words with proper sequence of information. The pictures from the stories can then be shown and discussed to identify the critical details that should be included in the ‘mind movie’. Encourage your child to improve his/her visualizations with practice to achieve greater overall success with listening and learning.
