Dear Parents of Incoming First Graders,
I am looking forward to teaching your child in first grade next year. Here are the requirements and recommendations to help your child prepare for first grade over the summer.
The summer reading/math requirement for 1st Grade is the
Summer Bridge Activities Book K-1. You can purchase this through Amazon, Target, or Barnes & Noble. (There are 2 pages to do each day.)
Additional Reading and Math Recommendations:
Try to read for 15-20 minutes every day. I also recommend reviewing sight words learned this year. I’m attaching the list of Kindergarten sight words your child should know before first grade. You can put the words on cards to practice. (For those of you who use Pinterest, there are lots of fun ideas on there for practicing sight words if you’d like to be creative.)
I have a number of Math and Reading links on my webpage your child may enjoy. Your child may also continue to use his/her Freckle and IXL accounts. Flashcards are another good way to practice math facts.
I am also giving you a supply list. I will send the supply list out again in August with any updated information.
Have a wonderful summer, and I look forward to meeting you all next school year!
Sincerely,
Mary Murray
