We were proud to present our collaborative effort to raise money for bail funds, grassroots organizations, and legal funds across the country during Summer 2020. Below is a description of the four phases of the fundraiser:
Phase 1: For Phase 1 of our Justice For Black Lives (J4BL) Fundraiser we were able to donate $15,000 to various funds across the nation (list of bail funds on our Instagram).
Phase 2: We were able to up our direct donations to $48,500 during Phase 2 and donated $123,000 through corporate matching. Our Phase 2 organizations were People’s Breakfast Oakland, Bay Area Community Law Foundation, The Bail Project, and the Ella Baker Center for Human Rights.
Phase 3: For Phase 3, we donated to the Anti-Police Terror Project, Black Mamas Matter, Restoring Justice Community Bail Fund, and the Westside Justice Center. Each of these organizations were chosen by members of the Stanford community.
Phase 4: This Phase had two arms: For the first, in collaboration with KITA products and Greek House, we reprised the KITA "Silence is Violence" design through a T-shirt Campaign! For the second arm, we hosted a virtual benefit concert in collaboration with Stanford Concert Network on July 11 at 5 PM PT/8 PM EST! The proceeds of both went to the Marsha P. Johnson Institute to support the human rights of Black Transgender people across the country. More details will can be found on our Instagram, @akaxibeta. At the end of this Phase, we were able to total our donations to over $200,000!
We were proud to partner with KITA Products (@kitaproducts) to raise money for We Love Lake Street during Summer 2020. Below is a description of the fundraiser:
We Love Lake Street is an organization providing aid to small Black and brown businesses and community organizations that have been impacted by recent protests. More information can be found on their website: https://www.welovelakestreet.com/. It is imperative that we stand up for and support those who are protesting in and impacted by the protests for justice after the murders of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Tony McDade, Nina Pop, Ahmaud Arbery, Michael Brown, Tamir Rice, Aiyana Jones, Atatiana Jefferson, Oscar Grant, and so many others. All proceeds from the Silence is Violence Sticker will be donated to We Love Lake Street, and are available for $7 here. The message "silence is violence" is especially salient now. Silence is not an option. We all need to stand up, speak out, and support Black communities. #BlackLivesMatter
