Rack & Pinion Design
Servo Motor Mount with Rack & Pinion
Assembled Servo Motor with Rack and Pinion
The servo motor is screwed onto the servo motor mount. With the servo motor mounted, the pinion that drives the rack up and down is fixed onto the shaft of the servo motor. This will allow the servo motor to linearly translate the platform at the top end of the rack up and down during the operation of the game. All custom components were 3D printed.
Servo Mount
The servo mount used self-tap holes to screw the servo in place. The wide base helped counter the moments created when the servo was actuated.Â
Rack
The rack's circular base served as a platform for the aliens. The length of the rack provided an adequate time for aliens to rise and fall given the servo's speed at 5V.
Spur Gear
Spur gear worked with rack to provide the right movement needed to create our rack and pinion mechanism of turning our servo's turning motion into a linear one.
