1. Essential Documents and Items

• • Passport: Ensure it's valid for at least six months beyond your travel dates.

  • Travel Insurance: Highly recommended for unforeseen circumstances.

  • Copies of Important Documents: Keep digital and physical copies of your passport, itinerary, and emergency contacts.

2. Clothing

• General Attire:

  • Lightweight Clothing: For daytime wear, especially in warmer regions.

  • Warm Layers: Evenings can be cool; pack sweaters or jackets.

  • Waterproof Jacket: Useful for unexpected rain.

  • Comfortable Footwear: Suitable for walking and outdoor activities.

• Safari-Specific:

  • Neutral-Colored Clothing: Khaki, beige, or green to blend with the environment.

  • Long-Sleeved Shirts and Pants: To protect against sun and insects.

  • Hat and Sunglasses: For sun protection.

3. Health and Hygiene

• • Personal Medications: Bring enough for the entire trip.

  • Basic First Aid Kit: Include band-aids, antiseptic wipes, and pain relievers.

  • Insect Repellent: Preferably with DEET for mosquito protection.

  • Sunscreen: High SPF to protect against strong sun exposure.

  • Hand Sanitizer and Wet Wipes: For hygiene on the go.

4. Electronics

• • Camera and Accessories

    • Choosing a Camera for Your Trip – Our faculty leader, Sue, shared some helpful advice on what camera to bring: "It really depends on your photography goals! If you want to travel light, your phone will do just fine. But if you have bigger photographic ambitions, feel free to bring your camera. That said, if carrying it around feels stressful, don’t worry about it—just enjoy the experience!"

  • Binoculars: Essential for wildlife viewing.

  • Portable Charger: To keep devices powered during excursions.

  • South Africa Power Adapter: Ensure compatibility with local outlets.

5. Miscellaneous

• • Reusable Water Bottle: Stay hydrated throughout your travels.

  • Daypack: For daily excursions and safaris.

  • Journal: To document your experiences (and will be used as part of the academic programming). 

6. Luggage Guide

• For flights between Johannesburg and Kruger, Airlink passengers are permitted a maximum of 20kg free checked baggage per person.
