All undergraduate and masters student projects are in collaboration with a primary graduate student or postdoc in the lab.
All undergraduate and masters students are expected to:
Set up a weekly meeting with their graduate student mentors.
Keep and frequently update a Google doc with research notes, action items for each week, and next step plans.
Create a shared slack channel, where you update Dorsa every week with a few bullet points on: i) what things you have tried, ii) what are some challenges you are currently facing, and iii) what are some next steps you are planning to take. This weekly update doesn’t need to be long and it is just to keep Dorsa in the loop and give her an idea of when you need her help.
Attend group meetings and other group activities.
Have a write up and presentation on the work you’ve done at the end of the quarter (or per quarter if you are continuing with our lab).
Please discuss with Dorsa what your future goals are early on, so you and her can set up research goals in a way that is aligned with your future goals (e.g. applying to graduate schools, going to industry, just trying out research, etc.) If you are planning on applying to graduate school, and you would like a strong letter from Dorsa, you are expected to lead or co-lead a project (which can potentially lead to some publications), be an active member of the lab, and update Dorsa frequently on your progress. In general, do not spread yourself too thin, and focus on a specific research project and dedicate most of your time to that.
