"Words mean more than what is set down on paper. It takes the human voice to infuse them with deeper meaning."

- Maya Angelou

I am a PhD candidate in the Center for Computer Research in Music and Acoustics (CCRMA) at Stanford University, and an active member of CCRMA's Music Engagement Research Initiative (MERI) lab led by Prof. Jonathan Berger. I am fascinated by the human voice as a means of expressive communication, and by the impact of one's experiences and environments on their voice. I seek to understand how current technologies leverage and position the voice to augment expressive, humanistic, and equitable technological interaction. I find this topic especially exciting because it is highly interdisciplinary, utilizing signal processing (DSP), machine learning (ML) and human-computer-interaction (HCI) techniques in combination with psychoacoustics and vocal science.

From June 2020 - June 2021, I worked with the Audio Team at Facebook Reality Labs Research to improve authentic vocal presence within virtual reality. Before coming to CCRMA, I conducted research on voice and audio signal processing at MIT Lincoln Laboratory. I studied vocal impairment in children following traumatic brain injury under Dr. Thomas Quatieri and in-the-wild auditory scene analysis under Dr. Michael Brandstein. I hold a degree with honors in Electrical & Computer Engineering (BSEE-cum laude) and pursued a Vocal Performance Music degree (BA) at the University of Colorado-Boulder. At CU Boulder, I was a research assistant within the Signal Processing and Communications group and was advised by Dr. Francois Meyer and Dr. Peter Mathys.

A proud Colorado native, I am an avid outdoor enthusiast. I spend most of my free-time exploring nature's beauty through rock climbing, skiing, backpacking, and making music with friends around a campfire.
