If you have not already, be sure to check your passport to make sure it is valid for 3 months after your return date to the U.S. and that it has at least 2 completely blank visa pages (not including the amendment pages at the back of the passport).
Get necessary immunizations and prophylaxes (refer to the health and medical section in the Destination Details page of this microsite).
It is most important that you begin a regimen of training now. Take several 3- to 5- mile walks each week, including some up- and downhill forays. Work your way up to daily walks including an occasional 10-mile walk, wearing the boots you plan to bring with you and carrying the day pack you plan to bring with you. You will be surprised at how quickly your legs and lungs get in shape and at how good you feel afterwards. During the trip there is no "sag wagon" offering rides.
We ask you to be mindful of your activities in the time leading up to your trip and to do your best to join the trip healthy. We want a safe and enjoyable trip for all, and we appreciate your help in making this effort. As a reminder, there is an inherent risk of becoming ill when traveling with a group. Covid-19 vaccination is not required but is strongly encouraged for all participants. Travelers who exhibit cold or flu-like symptoms, including those who test positive for Covid-19, will not be required to isolate from the group and will be subject only to local health protocols. However, they will be asked to wear a mask and advised to practice social distancing/isolate if their symptoms are particularly severe. If another guest exhibits symptoms of upper respiratory illness, you may opt to wear a mask or distance yourself as needed.
Please put on the blank side of the white card insert of your Stanford luggage tag, your first initial and last name in capital letters facing outwards (e.g. J. STANFORD).
The tap water in Italy is safe to drink, so in keeping with our effort to eliminate single-use bottles on all Travel/Study programs, we ask you to be sure to bring a refillable water bottle and/or hydration pack that you can fill in your hotel room and refill at lunch to make sure you have plenty of water during the day.
Notify your credit card company that you will soon be traveling, so that any significant charges you make will not be questioned or put on hold.
Our hotels were chosen for their location along our walking route and are the best available in each location. They are all 4- and 5-star establishments. Due to the size of our coach and the narrow streets, we will need to walk about 5-10 minutes carrying our own daypacks (carry-on bags/day packs) to and from our coach to two of these establishments.
