Grammar/Vocabulary Workshop:

In general, we’ll complete one vocabulary unit every two weeks and one grammar unit every 2-3 weeks. Please check the Grammar/Vocab Weekly Schedule linked above and displayed below.

The end of each unit will have a quiz. The grammar quiz will be open book. The vocabulary quiz will not.

Quill: Quill is an online grammar/writing program. They'll have two activities to complete per week.

IXL: Students need to complete 2 IXL activities per week from the study plan. This starts the week of 8/24

Journals: We will have a weekly journal. The topics will vary wildly. We may have additional journals associated with the class book.

Current Class book: Esperanza Rising

Personal Novel: Each trimester, the students need to select a fiction or nonfiction book for a book report. The book must be approved by me beforehand. The book report project will be on Google Classroom each trimester. They'll have the whole trimester to complete the assignment. This is an out-of-class assignment. 

Late work/Retakes:

Students can always turn work in late. There will be a one letter grade penalty per day down to 50%.

Students can retake tests and quizzes once. This must be on your time (lunch, before school, after school, etc)

Grade Book weighting: 

Tests/Projects/Essays 40% | Quizzes 25% | Exam 25% | Classwork/Homework 10%

Grading Scale:

98-100 A+

95-97 A

92-94 A-

89-91 B+

85-88 B

83-84 B-

80-82 C+

77-79 C

75-76 C-

70-74 D
