Summer Work for Entering Second Grade:
Reading is encouraged! In addition to encouraging your child to spend time reading independently, we encourage you to read with your child daily. Parents and children reading together can have a significant impact on your child's education. We encourage you to make reading time a special time of joy for you and your family. The reading lists attached are suggested titles for students to read. Please spend some time visiting bookstores and public libraries with your child this summer.
Find fun ways to help your child practice their addition and subtraction facts with you this summer. You can use flashcards or practice drills when driving in your car. Playing games that involve dice or playing cards are awesome for working on math skills. In addition, there are many online math practice sites that your child will enjoy! Please have your child complete the 4 Color by Code math practice sheets and turn them in within the first week of school.
Have fun practicing other skills using the fun Summer Bingo Board. The Bingo board is full of activities for students entering Second Grade next year. There will be a prize for students who complete a BINGO or a BLACKOUT on the board. Please print out and mark the tasks that are completed by your child. Return the board within the first week of school.
