Learn about the Seal for Civic Engagement, while finding some resources and materials to help you put your adoption group together and plan norms, guiding principals, and how you will function as a committee.

Here you will begin the work of looking at your district or school and collecting data on the readiness for this new program as well as the commitment to Social Studies Education and the support that you have in place. You will highlight those areas of strength and challenges that need to be overcome for a successful adoption.

In this section the committee will do a deep dive into the individual criteria of the CA State Seal of Civic Engagement. They will look at the guidlines that the state has set and those areas where the school / district can make alterations. They will begin to work on what this program will look like for students, families, school staff, and the local communities.

During this section the committee will look to make connections between the adopted History / Social Studies Framework. This is the stage where the committee will begin to construct those elements of the program that each grade level will be responsible and how that will transfer from grade to grade.

At this stage all committee members will review the information, data, and work that has been gathered and constructed through the other sections. They will work together, following the guiding principals that were agreed up, to make a final decision about implementation and begin to plan for roll out to the larger institution (School / District)

Following up from the final decision, the committee will work to implement their plan and roll out the SSCE to the entire institution. They will also continue to meet and collect data to review the progress and make changes as they are needed to make sure that implementation is successful and meaningful
