The SHS Band has had a busy start to the year! Students have performed at three home football games including SHS’ annual Pink Out. As football season winds down we are turning our focus to preparing for our winter performances including the veterans day parade, holidays in harmony at the mall, a side by side with Westhill at the palace theatre as part of a fundraiser hosted by country singer Jessica Lynn, and of course our winter concert on Dec. 18th.
On Thursday, January 23rd the SHS Band visited Rogers International School as a kick off to their spring recruitment tour. Students from SHS started by sitting in on small group lessons at Rogers to work with 5th and 6th grade band students and build connections. This was followed by an informal concert for the 7th and 8th grade band students. SHS students performed a variety of pieces including pep band tunes the group played at home football games in the fall, as well as some of their concert music, giving Rogers students a sneak peek of what the group is working on for the spring. Following this the 7th and 8th graders were invited onto the stage for a mini rehearsal with the SHS band. Participating in some warmup exercises and learning the beginning of one of SHS' musical selections. Band director Victoria Rosado shared that "The SHS band sounded fantastic, and they were extremely helpful to the middle schoolers! The next day, students said how excited they were to continue playing in band in high school."
The SHS band program is looking forward to continuing their tour later in February and throughout the spring with the goal of encouraging students to continue their musical endeavors into their high school years.
