The primary role of a teacher is to deliver classroom instruction that helps students learn. To accomplish this, teachers must prepare effective lessons, grade student work and offer feedback, manage classroom materials, productively navigate the curriculum, and collaborate with other staff.
But being a teacher involves much more than executing lesson plans. Teaching is a highly sophisticated profession that regularly extends beyond academics. In addition to ensuring that students experience academic success, teachers must also function as surrogate parents, mentors and counselors, and even almost-politicians. There is almost no limit to the roles a teacher may play.

A teacher should act as a role model and someone to whom the learner can go to for support and guidance.
A teacher must be able to pass on their knowledge in a clear and understandable way. They need to build a rapport with their learners and ensure that learners communicated with each other. They also need good listening skills.
A teacher must act as a counsellor or guide in a professional, fair, no- judgemental and objective way, it is important for a teacher to know when they should refer their learner to another professional if required.
A teacher should where possible allow and encourage learners to learn independently and observe and help where required
A teacher is responsible for the health and safety of their learners. They need to ensure that the learning environment is a safe place in which learners can learn.
A teacher should identify the needs of each learner and offer help and support where they can. They might need to refer the learner to the relevant person and must be aware of professional boundaries.
A teacher must regularly check that learning is taking place and identify what changes are needed to help improve their own teaching.
