In the past few years, TikTok has seen huge growth in the social media sector, providing massive success to independent artists and brands alike. Most recently, UK Eurovision star Sam Ryder shot to fame as a result of growing the largest TikTok following of any music act globally, with the platform giving him an audience to drive his mainstream growth.

Creative students can use this platform to grow a following as well as showcase their skills, however there are some significant limitations to this platform and the way it operates.

During this research project there was substantial evidence found to suggest data provided to TikTok is accessible to the Chinese government, which may or may not pose a data privacy threat.
