Literacy
During our literacy sessions the children will be encouraged to write letters, words, sentences and stories. The children will work on learning the names, sounds and written symbols of letters of the alphabet. They will begin to discover word families and blends. In reading the children will continue to develop their decoding and comprehension skills. They will also focus on learning specific sight words. The children will continue the development of their fine motor skills.
Maths
In maths our focus will be on numbers to 10 (for Prep) and 100 and beyond. The children will understand what makes up different numbers and use materials to explore place value strategies. Problem solving strategies will also be developed. The children will develop an understanding of the days of the week, months and seasons. Counting and skip counting.Religion
Students will come to understand the idea of Belonging. They will learn that we belong to our family, our school community, our church community and the wider community. We will identify the ways we become part of the church community through Baptism.

We will study the big question...
How do we stay healthy, safe and happy at school ? Children will learn that they are able to make choices that help our school to be healthy and safe They will learn that there are many ways we keep ourselves clean to ensure we stay healthy (food safety, washing hands, infections) Children will also focus on themselves as learners by having brain breaks/brain food, water breaks and participating in meditation. Children will discover that everyone is unique and has their own strengths and talents.
Italian
Students will be given a brief introduction to Italy and the Italian language, including expressing emotions and saying your name with a prompted question Come ti chiami? They will also be encouraged to say how they feel with the prompted question: Come stai? They will be using emojis to match to their feelings and playing games to match the emojis and the Italian vocabulary, molto bene, bene, cosi cosi, male
Visual Arts
For Preps there will be a focus on using art room equipment and materials correctly and safely. Through discovery, discussion and art making, students will learn about all elements of art with an emphasis on colour, line, shape and texture. The abstract style of famous artists (Mondrian, Kandinsky etc) will be referred to during these sessions.
Performing Arts
This Term in Performing Arts students will explore the movement possibilities of different body parts to develop dance ideas. They will use fundamental movement skills to develop technical skills when practising dance sequences and they will follow dance choreography.
Physical Education
Students will be introduced and encouraged to participate in a variety of games that help facilitate gross motor skill development. These games will also focus on cooperation, teamwork and following rules. Students will be encouraged to participate in running races, tabloid games and relays in preparation for Sports Day in Term 2
