Book Week Dress Up Day
On Friday 27th August all of the students in Prep/1 B and S dressed up as their favourite book character. Here are their costumes..
RED Day
On Thursday 26th August the students from Prep/1 B and S dressed in the colour red to remind students to Read Every Day. We also talked about what type of things they can read; books, magazines, signs, recipes, packaging, text on the television, letters, junk mail and emails.
Remote Learning 5.0
Week 2 of term 3 saw us back into remote learning. The children did a fantastic job with the switch to online learning.
We focused on learning about Australian animals. The children used adjectives to describe the animals and looked at writing information reports. Attached are some of the activities completed by the students in Prep/1 B.
Although the students did a great job with remote learning, we are all very glad to be back in the classroom.
TERM 3
Toy Building
In inquiry we have been learning about toys, old and new. We have been investigating the materials they are made out of and how they move. After we investigated a range of different toys, we then designed a toy that we would like to make ourselves using recycled materials. Students needed to give their toy a name, they needed to be able to name the materials they used and their toy had to be able to move.
Today we made and evaluated the toys we have been designing during inquiry lessons. All of the children had fun building their toy that moves. Later in the week we will look at how we can advertise our toys and how we can use words to persuade people to 'buy' them.

Possum Magic
We have been reading Possum Magic at school. This week we tasted some of the foods from the story. All of the students enjoyed the Lamingtons but not all of the students enjoyed the Minties, most thought they tasted like toothpaste.
Wacky Wednesday with Jennifer
The Grade One children met with Jennifer this morning for their classes today.
Don't they all look FABULOUS!
Remote Learning Pictures
Thank you to all the children who have emailed me photos and videos of themselves completing their learning activities. Here are some superstar learners in action.
Graphing in Maths
In maths, students have been learning about collecting data and creating/reading graphs. We have been looking at pictographs, bar graphs, pie graphs and even human graphs. Here are some pictures of us using our bodies to answer simple yes or no questions and forming a human graph. Some of the questions asked were; Do you have a brother? Do you have a sister? Do you like hot dogs? Do you have a pet? etc. The students then used their bodies to move and form a graph.
Prep/ One Toy Incursion
This term in Inquiry we are learning about how toys move. On Monday 10th May, we had an incursion with Ryan who was a toy expert.
Ryan brought with him heaps of toys, old and new. The students spent their 2 hour session discovering different types of toys from 4 different stations. The skills station had toys like a slinky, spinning tops, knuckles, yoyos, rubik’s cube and kendamas. The construction station had lego, meccano, hot wheels, a marble run and train sets with trains that moved on their own. The action station had hopscotch, elastics, momentum wheel, a very cool rope and ball activity and mini golf. The imagination station had magnets, dress ups, periscope, kaleidoscope, dolls and a light box with colourful shapes. There was also an old toy museum with lots of precious old toys that we couldn’t touch. The students had such a fun time exploring the different toys which also provided them with lots of ideas for when they create their own toy that moves.
ANZAC Biscuits
Leading up to Anzac Day the students in Prep/One B were learning about the history and read numerous books full of information about the Anzac soldiers. We completed different literacy activities and we even made Anzac biscuits, which the students really enjoyed. After making the Anzac biscuits the students got to eat them, I think that was their favourite part!
TERM 2
On Friday the 26th of March we celebrated the end of our inquiry unit with a Wellbeing day. This day was a combination of all of the learning that we have done across the term about keeping ourselves healthy, safe and happy. This included wellbeing rotations including physical activity and mindfulness, a visit from the ladies from market fresh with their delicious fruit and enjoying the company of friends.
Grade One Camp Program
After some healthy fun during our wellbeing day it was time for the Grade ones to experience a little taste of camp! After school they changed into their casual clothes and got into groups to complete some rotations out in the yard. They then made their own healthy dinner and enjoyed some treats. To end the night, they showed us their amazing dance moves before getting picked up by their parents. They were all amazing and it was lovely to see all of the grade ones together for the first time this year!
Prep/One B were very lucky to be visited by the Easter Bunny on the last day of Term 1!!
Maths Activity
In maths we have been learning about locational language. Here are some picture of the children following directions using locational language to stand in the correct spot.
The students are standing on top of the bridge.
The students are going down the slide.
The students are underneath the playground.
The students are between the pole and the climbing web.
The students are to the left of the playground.
Shrove Tuesday
Tuesday 16th February was shrove Tuesday. The students in Prep/one B and Prep/One S made pancakes. All of the students got to help their teachers make yummy pancakes for everyone to eat. The students enjoyed following a recipe to make the pancakes.
Back to school after home learning
The children were very excited to be back at school after a few days of home learning. They were very happy to be back learning with their friends.
On Friday we had a late Ash Wednesday Mass, followed by an activity back in the classroom. We talked about why we celebrate Ash Wednesday and receive ash on our foreheads. Make sure you ask your children about their experience.
The prep students spent some time with their buddies. They got to know their buddies more by finding out their age, favourite colour, favourite food and favourite activity. They also drew pictures of each other which we are hoping to put up as a display because they are excellent!
Inquiry
In inquiry, the students in both prep/1 classes have been learning about the school rules and how to be safe around our school. The students have worked really hard to come up with different ways that they can stay safe during our time at school. Here are a few of their ideas.
Holding onto the hand rails when you walk up the rope stairs.
Moving slowly and safely when playing on the playground.
Not being silly and playing with the water when you get a drink from the drink taps.
Don't go into the garden without an adult.
Holding on with two hands as you go down the pole.
Holding onto the hand rail and walking slowly up the stairs.
No running.
Playing nicely in the sandpit. Don't flick sand around as it may get into peoples eyes.
Lining up and walking slowly around the school.
Prep Rest Days
On a Wednesday for the first 4 weeks of term 1, the prep students have a rest day. On these days the grade one students from Sharon and Bonnie's classes join together and work collaboratively for the day. Here are some pictures of the grade one students working together during one of their maths lessons.
The students were given a large amount of unifix blocks. They had to estimate how many they had in front of them and then together they had to think of a strategy for how they would count their blocks.
I was blown away by the teamwork the grade one students showed and the different strategies they came up with.
All of the prep students in Prep/1 B enjoyed their first day of school. Here are some photo's of them settling into their new classroom.
Even their teacher had to settle into her first day of prep.
