String Instruments

Violin

The violin plays the highest notes out of all the string instruments and has a very bright sound. It often plays melody parts. The strings of the violin are E, A, D, G. Click the images below for a demonstration!

Viola

The viola looks similar to the violin and is also played similarly. It is slightly bigger and you'll notice a different texture in the sound. It often plays harmony parts. The strings are A, D, G, C. Click the images below for a demonstration!

Cello

The cello is larger than the violin and viola and makes a lower, richer, and more mellow sound. This instrument is played sitting down and has the strings A, D, G, C. Click the images below for a demonstration!

Bass

The bass is the largest string instrument and plays the lowest notes. It is played similarly to the cello, but while standing up. The bass if often thought of as the foundation of the orchestra, supporting the entire group. It's strings are G, D, A, E. Click the images below for a demonstration!
