Stafford County Public Schools’ Bring Your Own Device policy allows you to use your own personal device in class to complete your classwork when your teacher allows it. Instead of always having to rely on checking out carts or labs, your teachers are able to use more technology in their lessons knowing that many of you have an internet-capable device that you can use. This is a fantastic opportunity for you to be able to work smarter. Each high school has their own policy about cell phone use in the hallways and at lunch, so make you sure check with your teachers on this.
Using your own device at school comes with responsibility. For example, you should always make sure you fully charge your device at night before school so you aren’t always searching for an outlet in your classrooms. If you do forget to charge your device, ask your teachers or ITRT where charging areas are located in your school building. Many of your teachers may have charging areas for you in their classrooms when a BYOD activity may be part of the lesson. Save your battery by connecting to your school’s Open Wifi Network and turning off apps that may be running location services in the background all day.
Learn to appreciate the moment and don’t feel like you always have to take a picture or video or post to social media. Practice balance by unplugging, putting your device away, and not always responding and reacting to messages.
